Interesting Wired article on how technology is modified to meet the requirements of prison culture: safety through transparent cases, punitive through restricted access to the internet, rehabilitative through the availability of artistic production tools like GarageBand, etc.
It reminded me of the NYT piece a few years ago on companies dedicated to modifying technology to make it jibe with Sabbath restrictions: installing switches to make elevators stop on every floor, adding timers to dishwashers and ovens, etc.
// edit: This isn't it, but it is close: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/11/nyregion/thecity/11stre.html
The ongoing dialog between culture and technology can be so freakin' cool sometimes.
