It looks like there are multiple approaches to generating images that can be mapped seamlessly onto a sphere. Does each require a particular implementation, or are the end-products all the same?

Here's a sample of what I've been building with:

I have only one chance to get the photos I need, so I'd like to reduce the chances of any miscommunication between the photographer and I. Hopefully the sample will be enough, but just in case I'd like to have an unambiguous name to give as well.

Thanks!

glad you worked it out, wasn't sure of what the question exactly was?

My thinking was that if there are multiple ways to represent a map of the world - Galls-Peter Projection, Mercator Projection, etc. - then perhaps there might be different types of spherical panoramas, some which might not jibe with my implementation.

Thanks, though!

missed this till now... sorry

I would have suggested looking at Photoshop's Photomerge automation, it offers a Spherical blend

Thanks, Walt! In this case we left the stitching up to the photographer - I simply wanted to make sure that the method he used would jibe with how I was using the final image. Not sure if it had a particular name, but everything worked out.
