thumbsup. One of the masters. He could encode so much into such simple seeming designs.
A true king of the golden age of logo design. His other work is pretty awesome too, but his logos are sans pareil.
oh that's nice to have it all in one place.
i have a random paul rand fact. he and ayn rand are not related, however, both their given surnames were rosenbaum, which they independently changed to rand upon moving to the united states.
That IS interesting.
One of my friends has the last name "Myers" - when the family arrived at Ellis Island form Poland the clerk couldn't spell their family name, and asked if they had another they would be willing to go by - they offered up "Meir". That I can understand. But Rand from Rosenbaum? Twice? weird.
Aye - we went from O'Strahan to Strain - but Rand doesn't seem to derive directly at all... strange.
hey, we went from spikel to speigel. although that was more my great grandmother trying to look western european instead of eastern european.
We went from Ruaidhri to Rogers but that was a LONG time ago. I'm pretty sure my family were illiterate in those days so it's probably moot...
i love that his work doesn't resort to "clever" or "gimmicks". after the fedex redesign (and its subsequent inclusion in design courses curriculum) everyone felt the need to use negative space. it seems to have died down a bit, but the replacement trend is even worse. (coughatt*upscough)
i thought we always feel the need to use negative space.
