Hi everyone

I have a question which no doubt some of you have been asked, or asked before. I have seen there are websites offering to market photographs and pay a commision of any sales made.

These sites seem to be targeting professions and amatures alike. Have any of you had any dealings with these sites?

I am looking for a way to make a few extra ££ and wondering if thats worth a shot. Are they a way to sell photographs or do you tend to get ripped off? If anyone has used them with positive experiences which ones?

Many Thanks

JTG

Stock photography (iStock, Shutterstock, Dreamstime, Alamy, Getty, etc.)

I've had limited luck in the past. Those who are most successful are those who devote a lot of time to constantly updating and shooting submissions. Maintaining a moneymaking portfolio on these (especially shutterstock/dreamstime/iStock - which are "penny-stock" sites) is quite a job.

I have not used any of the fine art print/frame online services. I like to do fine art sales myself.

Yeah, the constant updating is essential. I know some people that's making $1500 a day - but that's pretty much all they do.

For 1500 a day that's worth it.

Generally speaking, that's way the exception, not the rule. Even with full time attention. Most photographers I know who spend a decent amount of time on this, barely pull $1500 a month from stock sales these days. Those who got signed to Getty do better... but they are making most of their money from assignments still.

Cool thanks for the info. I wasn't wanting to start doing it full time. I might give it a shot, putting the same photos across different sites as long as neither are selling the copywrite and just rights to use it that should be alright.

The copyright remains yours. But most do sell them royalty free. So no license management.

Alamy and Getty both do licensed images, if you want to go that route.
