In another thread emcee posted a link to a photobook he made of his trip to Amsterdam, so I checked it out. Prices on blurb be good, yo! I guess I'll see how the quality is... Great editing tools. The downloadable version, anyhow.
Anyway, yeah, only 50 bucks and one slim nickel (tax and shipping included) for a 200 page softcover book. Here's what I'm having done:http://www.blurb.com/books/2039559
Looks great mate.
Blurb.com is awesome. We compiled our wedding photos into a blurb book in 07. Print/paper quality were excellent. We got a hard cover and dustjacket too. If the quality is the same, you'll be stoked.

we made a book of our son's first year for my parents - quality was great. Should get around to making another one in fact.
When do I get my signed copy?
Looks good though. Were the margin sizes customizable or is it fairly boilerplate?
Not to answer for Ari, but you can usually send fully finished/designed PDFS from InDD with your own margins and elements, or you can use their templates with recommended margins.
you can do pretty much what you want IIRC, the book I made printed right to the edges.
The print quality is great especially for the price. I've done two books although it's been a couple of years since. I've now seen the InDesign option which is cool but I liked the tools to get moving quickly.
Blurb is awesome and I'm sure you're going to love the quality ari.
I've done 4 or 5 books with them and been very happy with the results.
Has anyone ever usedwww.snapfish.com?
Ari, I just finished looking through your book... enjoyed every minute of it. What are you planning to do with it? is it just something you are doing for yourself? or others. or more commercial thinking?
Arse - I have used snapfish for 6x4 and 7x5 small prints, which were just fine. I have never used their publication options though, and cannot speak to their quality.
Cool.. thanx. I might get a book from each and compare... I'll let you guys know if I do.
I did two books, and they didn't quite work out. Most like it was my photos, but...They all looked great on screen, same res and all that, but when it came back some looked crappy and some looked good.
From snapfish or blurb?
Blurb both times. And they were photos of paintings, so kind of twice removed.
crappy in what way? color/saturation or sharpness/detail/pixellation? or something else? I can imagine quite a few scenarios...
Well, my book is at the post office so I can report tomorrow eve ...
But yeah, I'd like to know the details, too. At least to know what to look out for when setting things up.
I took a look at me books. The first one had a few things, the pics weren't great, and some of the pages were slightly out of registration. The second one the some of the pictures seemed dark, but I'm not sure if that was my bad or theirs, probably mine.
Got it! Looks FANTASTIC. Sent one to my Mum right away. It's cheaper to ship to the UK than Canada, how weird is that?
Glad to hear it!
Good to know! Flipped through the preview... looked fantastic!
The colour quality was really great, very rich, good contrasts. Looks better than on-screen.
