Weird question.

We're interested in acquiring some polarizing window film for a project we're doing.

Situation:

Imagine a computer screen facing a window. You want to prevent people on the other side of the window from viewing the material on that computer screen. We've looked into it and we believe that this film can indeed work. We just need to know where to get it.

Does anyone has ideas?

Quiet you. :P

Already looked at the Goog.

There's one company that makes it at the size we need (think window pane as opposed to camera lens), but the price is crazygonuts ($600 for a 9' x 56" roll).

k

That was the first thing I thought of too.

could you use that stuff the rednecks (sorry - sons of the soil) use to cheap-o 'tint' their car windows? It's some type of static film that comes in varying levels of opacity ...

$15 per linear foot in 17" widths. http://www.polarization.com/polarshop/

But it's never going to be cheap. Why would you put people screens (and backs) facing windows in the first place... I hate that.

edit - also, they make those privacy screens for monitors, that if you're even a couple of degrees off angle are pretty well blacked out.

What scenario are you trying to prevent? Capturing an lcd display through a plate glass window from the outside? Might be easier to create moire than to polarize, though I understand your concept...

I bet something like this might work:http://www.technologylk.com/crl-36-x-100-ft-black-even-weave-solar-screen-wire-roll-lk-SSW36BL.html 3.79 per foot more or less, you could get it for less if you find a suitable offhsore source.

I'm going to kick you both in the vagina.

And r_d: That... that could very well work! I'll have to give them a call tomorrow morning.

Ari: That could be a very workable alternate. You nailed the situation. Legal compliance states that the content on these screens cannot be viewable except in certain circumstances.

And... my window film nails situations from behind.

FURIOUSLY.
