Is it possible to record the change in the settings when recording an action in CS5?

For example I select the history brush and want the blend mode set to Screen. I have a Stop action, I can paint what needs painting then the next Action selects the history brush again but with the blending mode set to Multiply and the opacity reduced to 25%.

All I have managed to achieve to is to reselect the history brush with the current setting (blending mode or opacity) or if I select a normal brush, the last used blending mode etc. I can't record a change in the blending mode.

That's probably not a very good example but it gives the idea.

Ha ha - save the parameters as a brush preset and then select that!

also try using "Tool Presets" for the specific Brush Tool type for the CS5 brushes—particularly the new liquid Mixer Brushes—this seems to be much more usefull than the old "Brush Presets"
