Let 'em die from breast cancer, just so they don't have access to baby-killing.
How would "they" be prevented from going to a planned parenthood clinic?
That's pretty sad.

yep. I'll bet "they" think so too

The change will mean a cutoff of hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants, mainly for breast exams.
No. it would seem a rerouting of said grants. If this were a pro life clinic and the breast exam came free with a sonogram, and those clinics were caught using breast exam money to pay for sonograms, Komen would break it off. Komen has a mission and they're free to keep to it and not expand their umbrella of services or have it expanded for them.
Sorry guys, this is a straw man, and it's retarded.
Nobody claims that the Komen money was used for anything but breast exams. The congressman is investigating whether federal money is used- that's the straw man.
No. Komen is afriad it's federally begot money is being spent on something they didn't authorize. That's why they have such a policy, to protect their mission. It isn't planned parenthood's money. To simplify it beyond that and assume it was some magic anonymous federal money is stupid.
Komen spokeswoman Leslie Aun said the cutoff results from the charity's newly adopted criteria barring grants to organizations that are under investigation by local, state or federal authorities. According to Komen, this applies to Planned Parenthood because it's the focus of an inquiry launched by Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., seeking to determine whether public money was improperly spent on abortions.
If PP can't keep track of how it's money is being spent, then I would put them in timeout as well until they can get their act together, which is what Komen seems to be doing.
I am pro-choice, and have nothing against either organization. This argument is evil and attacks an organization that's done nothing wrong.
I disagree. Komen's money isn't federal, it's donations. The right wing congressman's investigation is merely harassment, such as has been going on all over the country. Komen's succumbing to anti-choice pressure.
I see the point. I think the argument is harsh against the pink ribbons.
:(

Komen will do what it needs to do to maximize revenue.

I think it's disingenuous and disgraceful to play politics into a health-related charity.
Harsh is the effect their political play will have upon the actual good work Komen has done.
Shame on them.
It was, at best, a politically risky move.

Harsh? this has been a big political mistake. Komen has apparently backed away. fuck them.
this whole thing has only blown out of proportion because most of the folks who this was intended to get riled up, don't pay attention to anything but the headlines. my understanding is this was a big bruhahah over such a small amount of money, mayor bloomberg was personally able to make up 1/3 of palanned parenthoods losses. the komen executives can go fuck themselves.

exacly
christ. I said i see the point. I was talking it out because I don't believe it's so cut and dry.
The original rules and procedure was put in place to vehemently protect Komen. This was an automatic action by the board and I am sure a difficult one to follow their policy to a T in this case, and was probably recommended by a bunch of heartless lawyers, because that's their job too. It was entirely to harsh to call Komen out on politics for it. They were shoved there.
Now Komen will have to spend far more money enforcing their policies due to nebulous, judgmental monitoring of investigations and the new grey area disregarding their policy just created regarding it. It is not Komen's job to monitor Congress! If any branch of government is dealing with something, Komen should only have to react in the way that protects the organization during the issue. The layer between politics and komen has now been stripped from them, and only opens Komen up to more right wing action in the future. What the congress woman did was awful. Shooting Komen with an arrow to the knee to prove a point was beyond evil, and will only injure fairness in the future and weaken their defenses against further right wing momentum.
in this election year, and its charged political climate, they were banking on more donations coming to komen from their conservative doner lists so they made a choice.... pull their own paltry 3/4 of a million from planned parenthood in order to ensure much, much more in conservative fundraising. no brainer. no defense.
they got too big. too much money...
Komen also cut off funding to Johns Hopkins andothers, totalling $12,000,000 for embryonic stem cell research for breast cancer. No word on restoring that.
Sure looks like a politically oriented move.
On January 31, 2012, the Susan G. Komen organization cut its funding to Planned Parenthood, citing as its reason new rules governing the foundation that bar the support of organizations under congressional investigation, in this case an inquiry by Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.)49[50] According to Jeffrey Goldberg, multiple persons with inside knowledge of the decision-making process have told him that this rule was adopted only to create an excuse to cut off Planned Parenthood from the Komen Foundation.[51] The move drew sharp criticism from women's health advocacy groups, which said that the Susan G. Komen organization was putting politics ahead of women's health.[52][53] On February 1, 2012, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) both criticized and revoked their support for Komen in speeches in Congress.[54]
Critics point out that Komen's new rules were created after the hiring of its new senior vice president for public policy Karen Handel, who stated during her unsuccessful 2010 Georgia gubernatorial campaign that "I do not support the mission of Planned Parenthood" and who pledged to eliminate funding for breast and cervical cancer screenings provided by Planned Parenthood.[55][56] Komen founder Nancy Brinker is a longtime GOP donor with strong Republican ties and served as ambassador to Hungary under George W. Bush, and the decision came shortly after Komen unveiled a new partnership with the policy-making arm of George W. Bush’s presidential library.[57] Following the decision, Komen's director of community health programs resigned in protest over the grant cutoff.[58]
Komen's decision was applauded by conservative religious and anti-abortion groups.[59] Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) said it was "a welcome, long-overdue decision that will make Komen more effective in the fight against breast cancer."[60] Several newspaper editorials denounced Komen's decision, and Planned Parenthood said that it received more than $400,000 from 6,000 donors in the 24 hours after the news broke.[59]
On February 2, 2012, twenty-six U.S. Senators signed a toughly worded letter urging Komen to reverse its decision,[61] while the American Association of University Women said it would end all collaboration with Komen.[62] On the same day Planned Parenthood said it received a pledge of a $250,000 matching grant from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg[63] and a pledge of a $250,000 gift from a foundation run by the CEO of Bonanza Oil Co. in Dallas to help make up for the loss of funding.[64]
On February 3, 2012 the Susan G. Komen Board of Directors issued a statement to "apologize to the American public for recent decisions" and said Komen "will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants." Komen said it will amend criteria to "make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political".[65]

if not political, its just proof there is more money and power in fundraising than there is in curing

Komen's 2009 Tax Return, scroll to last page. Some people are def making a pretty penny as they work for a "non-profit". I'm not saying they shouldn't be making some $ but those numbers seem a wee exorbitant to me.
yeah, that's a really good example page...
wee bit exorbinate $275,000.00, $287,000.00 $401,772.00
fuck me, I'm glad you posted that link...
Lovely, I really enjoy where this prankhacking has been going lately.
