Hi all,
I've just completed the following website, and launched it. There are a few things I still plan on doing (more call to action items in conversion zones, speed up performance a bit), but I feel it was ready to get out there.
This website was designed to put design/look-&-feel in the forefront, even at the expense of performance (a little bit), although the ideal situation is the right balance... as long as it's not a negative hindrance. This was done for my wife's business, and she definitely wanted something more "design-heavy" than the previous website I did for her... which was way to dry and "cart-looking"
What I'm looking for is just some general feedback. how does it look? What do you think? First impression?
Thanks, appreciate it!
No time right now for a detailed critique, but I have to say that I love the look of it. Really striking design, just the right feel for that kind of business.
The only comment I'd make is that it's not immediately obvious that it's a store -- at first glance it looks more like a blog. If it were me I'd bring the featured products up, put the welcome text in a sidebar and drop the links below it -- or something similar to make it more obvious that you can buy stuff.
Really impressed.
Thanks! Not a bad suggestion

Nicely designed
I would maybe have the product category selector on the front page too, linking directly to the products section, making it more obvious that it's a store.
Minor detail : have to rollover images on the menu preload, or use css sprites for them - on first visit they blank out for a second.
thanks for the feedback everyone.
Update: I have been able to significantly improve the speed and performance of the site.
I also fixed that preload issue for the navigation rollovers. Was a mistake I made... JS was still pointing to the directory I was developing in
Silly, silly, but it happens.
Now to optimize from the marketing perspective!
