In short I'm going to make a little flash sort of thing that I want to be able to create a screensaver out of for both Mac and PC.

I don't really want the user to have to install the thing I just want it to be like a normal windows XP and Mac OS X screensaver.

There are no need for screensaver options beyond the basic stuff that is in the screensaver dialog such as how long until it comes up.

I checked out one app called ScreenTime and I didn't like the way it was turning out.

Any ideas?

screentime looks like a pretty good one, what did you not like about it?

There are a whole hillabunch of Flash screensaver makers. Most of them have trial versions so download a few and see which one fits the bill.

Just google it and see what you find.

For the record, the best results I have had were back in Flash 5 with An old Flashjester utility :

worth a look.

Mostly the fact that it doesn't create a screensaver file. It basically turns the system based screensaver off and runs a piece of software of it's own.

As for flashjester sadly it's windows only for screensavers as far as I can tell.

However... on the brighter side... I did find iScreensaver which outputs a mac screensaver file that then can be loaded from inside the screensaver settings in the control pannel as well as a Windows SCR file which is just dropped into the windows folder or the system32 folder and then it shows in the list.

It seems to have all the stuff that Screentime had just with the proper output. I'll let you folks know how it turns out.

Thanks for letting us know how it turned out! k

So, anything new in the cross-platform screensaver from Flash market I should know about? I have a project for work that requires this.

I haven't used anything since FlashJester.

Multidmedia Zinc can do both i believe. At least it does with their projectors

Well, for one I don't have to worry about cross-platform after all...

Here's my take on it:

Flash2x - Seems to work fine (tested on my workstation) Doesn’t seem to work with CS4 files but CS3 works OK Creates an scr installer (exe)http://www.flash2x.net/screensaverbuilder/ $29.95 USD

Flashjester – does not install scr correctly, installer looks too complicated for my end users.

iScreensaver – seems to work fine Only works with files exported in quicktime format Seems more pixellated than flash2x when scaled to fit screenhttp://iscreensaver.com/price.shtml $499 USD

Screentime - blocked by corporate firewall, looking into it still.

InstantStorm Seems to work well with all versions of Flash Standalone exe installer, but does not immediately bring up screen properties dialogue box after install Makes installed screensaver the default choicehttp://www.instantstorm.com/download/ freeware

So far Flash2x & InstantStorm are the only players in the game. Not fantastic, but it acceptable.

A word of caution - doing the old google search & try out software method, I came across Flash Screensaver Maker - don't install it, there's a trojan in the exe. http://www.flash-screen.com/screensavermaster/

great, much appreciate the update ari. Slideshow screensavers are still a popular way to host/highlight the latest range of images, particularly with a lot more people using two monitors at their desks.

i've used both screentime for flash and iScreensaver, and I can say w/o a doubt that iScreensaver is the way to go.

i remember being able to output both mac and pc screensavers with very little problems. and it supports H264 quicktime, which is totally tits.

screentime sucks balls because you need a mac and a pc or some type of virtual pc environment to output a pc screensaver. I also remember getting the icons to show up properly was a fucking nightmare.
