It was quiet this week, so I spent some time whooping up a little personal project.
Some of you might remember I wrote a short story a while back. As no one's bought it (so far, at least) I've decided to 'publish' it on my website. And I thought it deserved an illustration.
The story takes place on a space station orbiting Ceres, which I had fun building.
Render 1:

Current version:
Only recently did I realize that I'd put all the windows on the floor - that is, the outside/tread of the wheel. Oops. I've moved them up to the 'sidewall' where they belong.
Nice work Mark
that's awesome!
A couple of stars in the sky wouldn't look out of place though
The stars always get me. I want to put them in cuz they look cool; but I want to leave them out cuz you would not see them. (It is way too bright.) Witness actual photo of the ISS:

very nice bit of work MC. When you see the current version compared to the first render it's amazing the difference! - great job!

Nice work MC.

it's like spotting the 10 differences between similar images. The newer one looks a lot clearer.
You need to do some interior designs. I'm interested in future-proofing myself from the catastrophic decisions happening on earth. What sort of apartments/compartments are available on the baby?
So you can animate it by rendering and rotating the model? How many polygons is that?
Yes, I can animate it - rotate, etc. It's a full 3D scene.
It has way too many polygons, as I wasn't planning on doing animation and building with fewer polys is harder/slower than building with lots of polys. So I was sloppy. If you're only doing a still frame, you don't care so much if it takes two minutes to render. If you're doing animation, that'll kill you and keeping poly count down is essential.
I'd say a little in excess of a million polygons, as it sits right now. That includes the two little spaceships that nobody but me can see.
Just for poops and giggles, I did a quick video test:http://markclarkson.com/video/supra_video.html

Cool! It's neat how it actually seems more realistic while in motion.

forget taking over the world, MC's taking over space!
I'm assuming what I thought were lights must now be the spaceships you added. Easy to see when you compare the first image with the newer one.

Bzzzt! I'm sorry, no, but thanks for playing!

.. dayum!
there's not really any little spaceships - you're just delusional from working at it for so long
