Hey guys,
You may have noticed that I have not been posting that much lately. I have been dealing with some cosmically serious bullshit, and now I need the wisdom of twelvestone before I make a rather epic decision.
To make a long story short, I was seeing this girl for 6 months. She then went completely mentally insane on me. She has a record of mental illness, including psychotic depression, multiple personality disorder, bipolar disorder, and several other mental illnesses. She is 32 years old and came to nyc last august to go to acting school at new york film academy. She started going insane, and harassed/menaced the staff there via phone/text/email. She got sent to the psych ward around early january, and I supported her at this time. When I got her out of the clinic, she started harassing the staff again. The school kicked her out. I then broke up with her because I could not handle it anymore.
Then she started harassing me, my family, and my friends through email/phone/text. She called 911 on me 5 times total, and told them I was suicidal so that the cops would come do a wellness check on me. She was camping outside my apartment building one night too, stalking me. Then the final blow came when the cops showed up at my work yesterday, and once my work found out about the situation they changed security protocol, and now everyone I work with needs to carry security cards and sign in at the front desk every day.
Yesterday after a whole day in court, I managed to get a restraining order against her. Today she violated that restraining order by contacting my friend, and my brother in law via email. Now here is where the decision comes in.
Should I turn her in? She can get up to 7 years in the slammer if I turn her in. I now know that she will not stop harassing me no matter what. I've been in touch with her parents, and her parents are the shittiest parents I have ever met. From my point of view they do not love her as a child. I honestly at this point do not harbor any real ill will towards her, she is really just mentally unstable and I want her to get the help she needs. Turning her in will effectively ruin her life. But at the same time, my family and friends need to come first in my mind.
What would you do?

My 2 cents, given the information you presented, is that I think you went above and beyond to support her.
There's only so much you can do man, and when it comes down to it, you've got to think of yourself at some point.
If it were me, I'd make the call to protect family/friends.
Turn her in.
She isn't going to get any better unless someone intervenes.

She can get 7 years, but I would think would mostly likely get sent back to the psych ward.
The best thing is probably to turn her in, it sounds like her life is already pretty ruined.

It makes sure she is getting treatment. You and your friends/family etc are safe from her doing something that she will regret.
In some ways it can ruin her life. But it might also save her life, or others, in some ways too.
Like everyone else says. Letting her roam free isn't helping anyone.

so far, from everyone i've talked to, the general consensus is to turn her in.

I think you're looking at this thing with the eye of someone who genuinely cares for her, which is totally understandable.
You don't WANT her to go to jail. But at the same time, you know that it will be bad news if she doesn't. Rock and a hard place, for sure.

Hopefully she will be sent back to the psych ward and get some proper medication and treatment. Sounds like a tough choice, especially when you know how much time someone can be put away for. On the other hand, if she really is as mentally unstable as you describe, then it might end up with something else than "just" harassment. The safety of family, friends and yourself must come first in this case.

for a while I was really in love with this girl before she went mental, and even to this day after all the shit she has put me through I still care for her.
