Did a search, no find.

Is there a premade Flash-based blog somewhere? If not, how long do you think it'd take to make?

For a n00b like me, that is.

I have been meaning to make an opensource one but its on a long list of things. I think you need to look round at blogs and see what capabilities they have for instance wordpress or something less functional like Typo. One approach might be use the flexible rails book to connect Typo (Rails) backend to flash front end. Probably take awhile but something much much simplier would take no time. Did you see the forums with flash front and php back end, see friends of ed PHP books from amhile back.

Check out Drupal's services module. It makes it a piece of cake to pull data from a Drupal site.

// edit: Of course, how long it will take depends on how familiar you are with Drupal. Implementing Services doesn't require any fancy configuration and blog functionality is included by default with the Drupal install.

Sooo

1) Install some kind of blogging system 2) write an app in Flash that'll query SQL databases with PHP 3) PRESTO!

?

Probably a little over my head/time/budget.

Probably a little over my head/time/budget.

You would get a lot of bang for your buck with Drupal on the backend. You wouldn't have to write a single <?php ... ?> or "SELECT * FROM entries"- just point and click. As an added bonus, you wouldn't have to bother with anything like theming since Flash handles the front end.

As for getting the data into Flash, once you have the Services module installed it's just a matter of calling the service and knowing the structure of the returned object. Two methods, tops.

That said, Drupal does have a steeper learning curve than, say, Expression Engine.

Ooh!

My dad was going on about Expression.

Was the above a snarky comment, or is it actually worth looking at?

Not snarky at all. k It's a bit easier to run out of the box. Similar to Drupal in that there are extensions available, but I'm not sure if there are any to make data accessible outside of the framework. Being a commercial product it's a bit more closed than Drupal.

Cool.

What has to be installed on the server for Expression to work? Will it work on Linux/Apache?

ExpEng requirements, yo

// edit: ...but you should really check out Drupal. Much more flexible and more likely to give you what you want in terms of making the content available. two cents.

I've been wanting to majke a flash 'theme' for wordpress for a while now.

i think it would be pretty easy - copy the php querries from any basic theme, write a liitle xml parser, naybe even read the css if you're feeling crazy.

you gonna do this? want help?

Mycho - this would interest me more...

flexible rails book to connect Typo (Rails) backend to flash front end.

not as much flexibility as wordpress but probably better inerds for future proof and might turn out easier.

probably a more solid solution - but > Originally posted by: JLM Mycho - this would interest me more...
