Thinking of getting a Film Camera, so that I can get into HD for the web ( green screen ). I have been discussing it with my sisters friend who does a bit of camera work and also general stuff on skins, but wondered if anyone here is an expert I need to get one that I can use at design agencies and elearning companies and maybe the odd small film company so a home video camera won't cut it. I was thinking the sony ..z5 ? Maybe its totally a bad idea??

Considering the cost of film & processing I think you'd be better off following emcee Larkson's advice...http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/open-dv-discussion/77474-how-much-does-super-16mm-35mm-film-cost-2.html

HD digital video cameras are available from $200 up. Surely you can find what you need among them?

Maybe one of these?

I asked him about them..

"The RED cam is a serious bit of kit, what they do is sell you the basic body and your basically build your own camera to the spec you need, be it basic filming, short films, music vids or film/drama. I wouldn't recommend the Red for what you want to do, they are pricey as well."

but I will do some reading.

Ok I just blowed a huge chunk of my company savings on an sony EX1, 2Tb harddrive and final cut studio. It means work better pickup soon but in the mean time I will teach myself a new skill I have been thinking about this for quite awhile and as it is year end so it was now or never. Its really scary as I have been trying to be cautious but also really exciting and hopefully a smart long term investment. So if anyone has video projects in the UK I aim to get up to speed with camera and serving media over haxevideo soon. My brother in law has worked on skins and is starting to work on short films so I hope to maybe get some collaboration going. I have never owned a really good still camera so its in at the deep end with proper video but its only technical guff and a good eye so i am sure it can't be any harder than flash! But it has been a really scary decision/risk and I probably find I only have half the things and my mac will prob struggle but got to start somewhere and I want to make sure I have a professional grade camera so that I can do thoughs types of projects.
