Is there a way to take the character and paragraph styles for an InDesign doc and import them into Illustrator? My hope is for something as easy to manage as a swatches.ase file, but since I likely won't be returning to the InDesign doc I'm happy with just a one-time deal.
I don't think so, but I've not tried. Are you needing to edit the text in Illus? Otherwise I'd just convert to outlines before pulling over.
Edit. There is a character/para styles panel and you can load styles from another document... you might try and see if you can import from your existing indd file.
(edit edit) that failed for me... worth a shot though.
Ditto. :(
Thanks anyway!
Have you tried copying and pasting the various text boxes from Indesign to AI?
I just wanted to create bulleted text in Illustrator the other day, and a search of the help/adobe community got me bubkiss
folks just said that Illustrator is not intended for advanced formatting [like bullets alt+0149] stoopid me,
Yeah, it doesn't really deal with insets and styles the same way... you can be a billion times more precise, but not more efficient.

Ya, and the results aren't good: text blocks broken up with each line becoming its own object, inconsistent application of styles, etc. You might as well stick with editing in InDesign and simply place the files rather than import.
