in illustrator, trying to live trace a particularly large file, I get a CANT error. Any thoughts? Do I just need more memory of have I reached a mystical point limit?
0.o
I'm guessing a limiter. But damn.
I'm on a machine with CS3 and 8gb ram. I can give it a shot if you want me to.
I do have only 4 GB memory but it's a Mac so memory hasn't been much of an issue so far... I figure I ought to upgrade to 8 but I'd like to get an idea if it's a memory issue or a software issue before I plunk down the cash.
I'm trying to create smooth vectorized halftone effects for high quality silkscreen printed materials.
Are you getting the error trying to run the trace?
Can you shrinkify the source image any or compress it some with jpg?
Yeah, it works fine if it's smaller. If I put a 1 or 2 px blur on it that would likely work, too.
It doesn't look the way I want it to, though.

Cut it into sections and do a few traces?
Just tell it - "There is no CANT in my vocabulary - only CAN DO!"

Hmm, good thought. I hadn't considered that but it's a very good solution.

that's what I'm here for.
noob.

good solution, yet would be lots of work for most of ther traces I've run http://www.adobe.com/products/illustrator/pdfs/creating_vector_content.pdf interesting that I didn't seem to find a max size notation anywhere
