http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/07/29/florida.burn.quran.day/index.html

(CNN) -- In protest of what it calls a religion "of the devil," a nondenominational church in Gainesville, Florida, plans to host an "International Burn a Quran Day" on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks. The Dove World Outreach Center says it is hosting the event to remember 9/11 victims and take a stand against Islam. With promotions on its website and Facebook page, it invites Christians to burn the Muslim holy book at the church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Suicide bomb threats and terrorism threats have already started as a result. Its only a matter of time now before America is in another Civil War.

Muslims will hardly start another civil war in America. There are not enough muslims—let alone enough militant extremist muslims to do anything more than protest a bit or commit some domestic terror/crimes.

There won't be civil war in America until a very significant part of the population is going hungry, and that's not likely in the foreseeable future.

I actually think the teabaggers are more likely to start a civil war than the muslims.

The Koch brothers won't let it get to that. People won't buy as many of their products in a war, and that hurts the bottom line. Tho they might make up the difference in oil.

This. If things keep getting worse for the underclass here in the old US of A things could get scary in ten or fifteen years. Still at worst it'd be a mild rebellion here and there, an all out civil war would be very, very unlikely.

Maybe in the city. Out here in Murica though, i think they're ready to go right now.

Yeah, if that didn't do it I doubt the teabaggers can.

i don't know - i think the extreme right + tea party is in a significantly different position than 60's mississippi & alabama in that i don't think tea partiers have any fear about repercussions of their actions - nobody is going to throw on a hood and drag their families out to a midnight flag burning or lynching

and i do believe that were it not for the fact that the feds + national guard were several steps ahead of organizers in the south, there would have been a race clash very similar to a civil war - after the murder of the 3 freedom riders, 16th street + george wallace blocking the doors, there were no dark corners for the militant/violent segregationists to hide & plan en masse - honestly believe we got lucky there.

and i've said it before - birmingham is one stray bullet from erupting into the pictures above all over again.

that is the real danger—smug carelessness mistaken for good old fashioned bush-era hubris... like inviting Christians to burn the Muslim holy book at the church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m

what a great idea!

Hey well, it'll be a nice change for the national guard from beating on WTO/G20 protestors I guess.

Yeah but that is like saying I think oxygen and nitrogen is easier to breath than sulfuric acid.

Teabaggers are not going to start a civil war. At the very most you might see larger rallies or some sort of "general strike" not a strike of labor.. but perhaps a blockade by truckers or something similar.

Maybe park a bunch of semi's on the bridges into new york city to teach the wall street barons a lesson!

But I think that would take a few more election cycles for people to really give up. Honestly if you think there is a good chance for organized armed rebellion.. you are pretty damn stupid.

Even wide spread rioting is pretty slim.

if/when unemployment hits 15% i could see there being violent pockets of insurgency, but based on the tea party power struggles i can't see it ever being organized enough to constitute a civil war. besides most of the tea party leadership are part of the top 1% of income earners anyway they'll keep their people in line to maintain their lifestyle.

the "real" unemployment number is above 15% and don't know if that is really relevant as most teaparty folks are employed.

About the only thing that would piss them off is if the 10% unemployment number continues and unemployment benefits are folded into a permanent form of aid.

Teaparty people don't care if you are unemployed.. they care if they have to support an unemployed person. I have a friend who is active in the tea party and he often gets the stink eye for being a gov employee. I would think you would feel out of place being unemployed at a tea party.

The peaceful Muslim response: http://indyposted.com/82807/armed-group-to-guard-church-during-koran-burning/

The question is what of the Muslim extremists?

Kind of a passive/aggressive thing to do. You know what I would've done, if I wanted to show Islam in an even better light? Send my own party to stand outside the church and ensure that the book burners were able to proceed with the act unmolested, and put out a statement along the lines of "we deplore the motive, but this is America where people are free to burn books if they so choose and we will defend their right to do so".

Never happen of course, but I reckon it'd be a real PR coup.

From that stupid indyposted article:

Unlike the infamous cross burnings of the Ku Klux Klan which were often staged on the property of opponents to intimidate them, the Koran burning will be held on the premises of Dove Ministries International, with their enthusiastic consent.

Oh well, then it's all hunky dory. Let's bake some apple pie, put on our American flag underwear, and head on down for some wholesome family fun. I'm sure Jesus would be down with a good old fashioned Koran burning. He loves shit like that.

Ugh.
