Talk me out of it. . . gogogogog.

But seriously, I've always used Nikons, and 1080P with Continuos Focus for $799 with a starter lens seems like a pretty sweet deal to me.

Kind of weirds me out there's only one adjustment wheel.

I thought I was going to have some older, but decent lenses to go with this camera, but it looks like that's out. So I'll be in the market for some new ones and thus a built in motor is less important.

Thumbsoup. I won't talk you out of it. Not only am I too late - this is a good deal on a good cam.

So, the D5100 is, according to dpreview, an APC-S sensor. That means, if I want something like a 50mm prime on a film camera, I really want a 35mm prime, is that correct?

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/606792-USA/Nikon_2183_AF_S_Nikkor_35mm_f_1_8G.html

I'm thinking about this lens. AF-S will autofocus with the D5100. 1.8 is reasonably fast for a $200 lens. I don't really want to drop $500 for a 1.4, I don't think.

Thoughts?

Yes - if you want something to approximate the 50mm FOV on a full frame camera, with a crop sensor - then 35mm is about right.

The new Nikon35/1.8 is really a pretty good lens. Much better than the sigma in the same focal length. It will not cover FF if you ever move that route - but if you're not bothered by that, it's a great buy.
